“I CAN, YOU CAN.” – Saint Rita Orphanage
The Heritage Hotel Manila had an outreach program at Saint Rita Orphanage in Sucat, Paranaque, Philippines last October 26, 2019. Present in the initiative were employees from the Sales & Marketing department headed by Director of Sales and Marketing, Ms. Gigi Gaw, and the “I CAN, YOU CAN” Project Ambassadress, Ms. Merielle Simora. This project is aligned with HR’s assigned theme for 2019 which is the “Culture of Bayanihan” which means “Helping Each Other.” The outreach program is one of the activities under the “I CAN, YOU CAN” Project which aims to inspire hotel employees to give support, bring joy, and give back to the less fortunate. The management of Saint Rita Orphanage expressed their deep appreciation to The Heritage Hotel Manila for choosing their institution as the beneficiary of this year’s outreach project. Saint Rita Orphanage is a non-stock non-profit religious institution that provides homes for the orphaned, abandoned, and surrendered children in the Philippines since 1964.
Blood Letting Activities
It has been a culture in The Heritage Hotel Manila to look after the needs of the community by partnering with the city blood bank. On April 25, August 2, and December 11, 2019, Philippine National Red Cross has collected a total of 19,350ml from 43 donors.
On-the-Job Training for Students
The Heritage Hotel Manila provides real world experience and training ground for future players in the industry by equipping them with confidence, right attitude and appropriate skills to prepare them for competitive careers. A total of 85 students from various universities around Manila have taken their on-the-job training and familiarization workshops in the hotel. Career opportunity in the hotel was also presented to outstanding students.
Annual Fire & Earthquake Drill
To ensure that the hotel is in compliance with the health and safety standards and continuously safeguard the guests, employees and properties, hotel employees underwent trainings on emergency preparedness and rescue responses. And to show support to Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in its efforts to create a culture of preparedness among urban residents for the possible 7.2 magnitude earthquake in the country, these trainings were put into action during the annual fire drill and earthquake drill on June 24, 2019 in coordination with the hotel’s Engineering Department and local City Fire Department.
Earth Hour
The Heritage Hotel Manila participated in the Earth Hour conducted last March 30, 2019. Through this participation, the hotel had switched off its interior and exterior lights as well as applied the use of candles at the Riviera Cafe for one hour. This participation corresponds to the call for the international community to mobilize action against global warming and climate change.
Coastal Clean-up Day
The Heritage Hotel Manila joined Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary Squadron 116th in its service to achieving trash free seas through coastal cleanup. Volunteers from the hotel picked up trash and various litter along the Baseco Beach Coastline. Coastal Cleanup is a global event initiated by Ocean Conservancy since 1986 to involve people in the removing of trash and debris from beaches, coastal regions and surrounding areas throughout the world, identify the sources of debris, and change behavioral patterns that contribute to pollution. There were a total of 4 (four) different coastal clean-ups that the hotel joined last 2019. Those were last January 27th, May 4th, September 21st, and November 9th.
Run for Humanity
The Heritage Hotel Manila with a total of 27 employees joined the Million Volunteer Run 5 dubbed as “Run For Humanity” on December 8, 2019 at Quirino Grandstand, Manila.
Monthly Staff Tea Party
Office celebrations give employees an enjoyable break from the regular routine in the workplace as an additional morale booster. Monthly staff party is a platform to recognize high performing employees, celebrate birthdays and gives a sense of togetherness through fun games and activities. A regular source of inspiration through the speeches of Model Employees and from the General Manager also helps employees stay motivated.
Sports Fest and Hotelympics
We had 2 days Sports fest and Hotelympics last November 16, 2019 and November 23, 2019 (Championship) to promote camaraderie and rapport among employees. Sports build strong bonds and provide a healthy activity for employees.
Internal Movement and Succession
The Heritage Hotel Manila posts a promising future for employees to be trained, acquire new knowledge and skills and accept more responsibilities through promotion. Employees are encouraged to work harder and hit new levels of excellence so that they are capable of increasing their value to the organization. By offering promotions and making the announcement public through bulletin boards and e-mails present positive reception from colleagues and subordinates. A total of 8 employees for 2019 received recognition of excellent performance through promotion.
